Magic of the Machine – How it Works

A Perfect Starting Point

A revolutionary intra-oral scanner is at the heart of iTero. Guided by voice prompts, the dentist takes several scans of the teeth and the patient’s bite with a hand-held wand until a complete digital image is captured. With each scan, iTero software captures 100,000 data points in a patient’s mouth.

Heading Off Problems Before They Arise –Visualize the Work Area

The digital models are magnified and displayed while the patient is still in the chair. This enhanced visualization, plus real-time analytical tools allows the dental professional to make adjustments if necessary before completing the scanning process, heading off potential issues that might otherwise have gone unnoticed until the seating appointment. For example, the dentist has the ability to view the reduction area from any angle, allowing them to measure and verify proper occlusal reduction.

Point and Click Simplicity – Digital Transfer

Once approved, the clinician sends the digital image via a wireless Internet connection to a Cadent-partnering dental laboratory. There is no need to schedule a pick up or deal with shipping forms; the digital scan arrives within minutes of being transmitted. The laboratory reviews the digital file and sends it electronically to Cadent’s manufacturing facility for milling into the physical model. What’s more, if there are any concerns discrepancies, the technician can simply refer to the digital scan for clarification and even consult the dentist who is looking at the same digital model.

Unmatched Accuracy

Once received by Cadent, a physical model is created that is unmatched in accuracy by any hand-poured model. iTero works with all types of restorative materials used in dental crown and bridge production. The physical model, die, and wax coping are milled and sent to the laboratory for completion as normal. The laboratory applies the aesthetics and delivers the end-result—a beautiful, precise-fitting restoration—to the dentist all within standard service times. After shipping, the dentist simply seats the crown or bridge. The noteworthy difference being the near zero rejection rate for iTero prosthetics, which in the past, would show up as costly and time-consuming remakes.
