Your Privacy - Cadent iTero and HIPPA

We would like to take a few moments to clarify how use of the Cadent iTero digital Impression system (“Cadent”) complies with HIPAA and the related regulations.  As a general rule the Cadent relationship with a patient is considered an indirect relationship and the HIPAA regulations do not require us to get the patient’s permission to use their information (process the impression).  In fact the only patient information we receive is the patient’s name, age, chart number and date of impression, all of which is provided by the doctor.  However to comply with the spirit of HIPAA and to assure our customers that we have and will continue to take reasonable steps to protect patient confidentiality we have done the following:

Development and posting of a privacy notice – Cadent has developed a HIPAA privacy notice.  This notice describes:

  1. The type of patient information we receive,
  2. What we do with the information and
  3. The parties that we may disclose the information to and
  4. Why we would disclose the information.

The notice also provides names and phone numbers a patient can call (if they so desire) to learn who has accessed their information and to request that access to their information be limited.  Our privacy notice can be viewed on our website at www.CadentiTero.com .

File security – Cadent believes the risk of any inadvertent disclosure of patient information has been mitigated by taking the following steps:

  1. As discussed above the only patient information contained with a Cadent iTero impression is the limited information the doctor provides.
  2. Cadent iTero impressions are stored on our secure server.  This server utilizes protection software that is designed to prevent access by parties that do not have an account with us.
  3. While we use the internet to transmit models to us and from Cadent to dental laboratories, the only way a model is transmitted is when a doctor/office has a Cadent iTero digital impression system, takes an impression of a patient and selects a dental laboratory to complete the restoration.  Cadent cannot collect patient information independent of action by a doctor/office.
  4. Cadent iTero impressions cannot be used by anyone who does not have a Cadent iTero digital impression system.  During the transmission the data is encrypted and its travel directed so it can only arrive at the Cadent service center or the selected dental laboratory.

We hope this addresses any concerns but should you have further questions please contact Cadent iTero customer service at 1-800-577-8767.
